What do these runway closures mean?
LGA has two main intersecting runways. When one is closed, all air traffic is concentrated on the remaining runway, shifting flight paths and noise patterns over specific New York City neighborhoods.
When this runway is closed:
Traffic is redirected to Runway 13-31. Residents in Flushing, Whitestone, and the South Bronx may see a substantial increase in overhead flights as the airport handles all traffic on a single path.
When this runway is closed:
Traffic is redirected to Runway 4-22. Residents in Astoria, Woodside, and Jackson Heights may experience significantly higher aircraft frequency and noise levels than usual.
